Gotye – I Feel Better

I Feel Better – Gotye by Peermusicuk

Belgian-Australian musician Gotye burst onto the indie rock scene over the last couple years with his album Like Drawing Blood and the popular music video for the track “Somebody I Used To Know“. Already big in Australia, Gotye is now starting to get some buzz in America with his third album Making Mirrors. My favorite from this album is “I Feel Better”, a throwback track to the days of Motown with great piano, horns and tamborine.[TheFoxIsBlack]

Jeep Mighty FC

Jeep has just released a new line of concept vehicles that are inspired by some of the their discontinued models from the past. The gem of the bunch is clearly the rebirth of the classic Jeep Mighty FC, America’s answer to the legendary Mercedes Unimog. A sharp looking utility minded vehicle with a long bed and ready to go to work attitude. This truck doesn’t have any of the luxuries of a modern SUV, and it doesn’t need it.

Sideshow Sign Co.

Leave it to an Aussie who was born and raised in rural Australia to come to the states and exemplify the current vintage Americana style movement. Luke Stockdale has a great combination of a design education, experience with old printing presses and understanding of the industrial aesthetic, which all come together to make for some beautiful pieces. Based out of Nashville Tennessee, Sideshow Sign Co. makes it their passion to recreate vintage signage and typography with the collection of hand made signs and posters. I’ve got a huge crush on the theater lettering, so cool. [Uncrate]

Ansel Adams Los Angeles

On display now at drkrm gallery is a collection of rare Ansel Adams photographs of Los Angeles. The pictures were taken all throughout the city from Downtown to the ocean, capturing what life was like in Los Angeles in the 1940′s. [LAI'mYours]

Beverly Hills Race Track 1921

Modern day Beverly Hills has very few redeeming qualities. It’s essentially turned into insular community of wealthy people that want to disjunct themselves from the real world. Not cool. However, back in the day, the physical and cultural landscape of the greater Los Angeles area was quite different, as was Beverly Hills. As you can see in the aerial photograph above from the 1920′s, the city was not sprawled out yet and left a lot of open land to be developed. And of all the things you would imagine to see in glitzy and glamorous Beverly Hills, the Southeast corner of Wilshire Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd (current site of Beverly Hills High School) was the site of the Beverly Hills Race Track. Yes, a race track in Beverly Hills. Very cool. Built as a board track with a surface constructed from wooden 2×4′s, the speedway hosted many motorcycle and automobile races. To help glorify this amazing piece of Los Angeles history, the National Film Preservation Foundation has put together a film highlighting this legendary track, compiling footage they have received from Indian Motorcycles and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Crazy P – Never Gonna Reach Me (Hot Toddy Mix)

Never Gonna Reach Me(Hot Toddy mix)-Crazy P by hot toddy

Just got my hands on this Hot Toddy remix of Never Gonna Reach Me by Crazy P, and I’ve been jammin’ to it non-stop ever since. Originally composed by Crazy P as a mellow soul track, Hot Toddy ramps up the groove into a disco anthem full of guitars and pianos with a nice house beat. I’m really diggin’ the female vocals on this track too. All in all, it’s a must listen.

History Of Beer Infographic

Amongst other things, beer saved the world. Take a moment to check out this infographic highlighting notable milestones in the history of beer, which include: the founding fathers of the United States of America were all brewers and decided to declare independence from Britain over a pint at the local tavern, Louis Pasteur derived the cure for polio from his process of pasteurizing beer, and how beer helped develop commercial refrigeration and railroad distribution.

The Art Of Skiing

The Art of Skiing from Extreme sports – HD videos on Vimeo.

Just stumbled upon this video that has combined the best footage from recent ski movies into one peice called The Art Of Skiing. Some of the shots are absolutely breathtaking and it is paired with one of my favorite M83 songs “Kim and Jessie.” Watch it all the way to the end to see this gnarly triple take-off jump which three skiers launch off of all at the same time.

Great White Buffalo

Great White Buffalo hail from the West, and no they’re not cowboys but they’re pretty wild. The rockers call L.A. home and have been rounding up a solid following in the City of Angels for the past year. Their deep gritty vocals paired with the bands classic-meets-contemporary rock sound, draws comparisons to The National, and with their electric sound it’s no wonder they’ve been creating a buzz. Great White Buffalo may be relatively new to the scene, but they are ready to lead the pack.”

Drive Neon Sign

The movie Drive got most of it’s inspiration from the works of Michael Mann and classic 1980′s cinema. It was able to masterfully execute these styles even though it was made in 2011, in a throwback sort of way. Since these are my two favorite genres, Drive instantly went into my top 10 favorite movies the first time I watched it. Recently, Belgian designer Rizon Parein has enshrined the movies epic logo into a glorious neon sign, “Because Drive just screams for neon.” For myself, I couldn’t agree anymore. Well done sir.

Fun. – Some Nights

Fun. – Some Nights by Fueled By Ramen

When I first listened to Some Nights by Fun., my initial thoughts were “I’m not sure what I’m listening to, but its amazing!” It’s like a melting pot of choir music, indie rock and African drum beats. Formed in 2008 by the lead singer of The Format Nate Ruess, they are most known for their hit song  We Are Young used in the Chevy Sonic commercial, but have released two full length albums that certainly pushing the limits of indie rock. I like how their tracks adopt a different rhythm and use a fresh batch of instruments than their muscial peers, in addition Nate’s fantastic voice.

Anthony Bourdain Layover iPhone App

Anthony Bourdain’s shows on the Travel Channel are hands down my favorite watch on television. His magical combination of food knowledge, witty personality and talented writing abilities has made his legendary show No Reservations immensely entertaining. And now, his new show The Layover is like No Reservations on speed, where he only has up to 36 hours in one city to show all the best areas to visit and places to eat. It’s in a sense a venerable tour guide to cities all over the world, which has now been compiled into a handy iPhone App for our use. Better pick this up for your future trips if you want to travel as well as Bourdain.
