Back To The Start

Entitled “Back To The Start,” this stop motion commercial sends a very powerful message about how the modernization of our food and agriculture industry to increased production and productivity has lost touch with it’s true farming roots.  Of late, many small and even large food service companies have recognized this deterioration of our country’s backbone, and have gone back to support local farms producing meat and produce the proper way. One of the leaders of this movement and also the surprising creator of this amazing commercial is… Chipotle. Paired with an extremely well done cover by Willie Nelson of Coldplay’s “The Scientist, this is quite a moving production. [FastCoDesign]

Ken Block Gymkhana 4

Rally Car driver Ken Block has evolved the traditional Japanese Gymkhana into an elaborate production of Hollywood effects and spectacular driving, tearing through the backlot of Universal Studios. Small, nimble, adaptable and fast, Rally Cars are designed perfectly courses such as this. With the popularity Ken’s videos have been receiving, they decided to go all out for the 4th episode incorporating special effects and staging of Hollywood blockbuster, and even including a cameo of the fellas from Epic Meal Time. Kanye West and Jay Z – Otis

Kanye West and Jay Z’s new video for their track Otis is an amalgamation of so many amazing things that it couldn’t go un-posted. Their post-apocalyptic retrofit of a $350,000 Maybach may be the greatest version of the car I’ve ever seen. So much so, I petition that Maybach should really consider releasing this as the Mad Max model. Aside from that, the music itself is tasteful blend of old school and new school featuring the sounds of Otis Redding. And to boot, the inclusion of Aziz Ansari as a backup dancer is one of those fantastic acts of randomness.

Classic JDM Cars

To say that modern sports cars lack character is understatement, they have no character. When seeking timeless styling, raw power and the pure driving experience, the sports cars of the 1960′s, 1970′s and 1980′s have unparalleled performance and personality. One prime example of this phenomenon is the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) sports cars of 1970′s. These iconic machines like the Toyota Celica, Nissan Skyline and Datsun Z embody these characteristics and are the passion of Eric Bizek of JDM Legends who restores and sells these gems. Check out the video for a stunning video of these beauties. [Jalopnik]

Los Angeles Light

My fascination and love for Los Angeles stems from city’s vast existence, that becomes magically illuminated at night. Seeing the lit landscape of the system of street grids and silhouettes of buildings is an inspiring sight. Photographer Colin Rich has composed an extraordinary video of time lapse scenes all over Los Angeles exposing the complex texture and makeup of this fine city. [TheFoxIsBlack]

Gap Los Angeles Denim Studio

Heralded as the last stronghold of denim in the United States, Downtown Los Angeles’ rich history of denim design and manufacturing have gone largely unnoticed. To bring attention to Downtown’s denim tradition and be apart of it’s current revival, Gap 1969 has setup their denim design studio on Pico Blvd in Downtown to produce a new line of denim focusing on quality of design and finish. I heartily applaud the effort Gap and many other companies have made to embrace our Country’s the roots of fine craftsmanship and production.

New Porsche 911 South Africa Testing

2012 will mark the introduction of the newest version to the 48 year lineage of the world’s finest sports car, the Porsche 911 (991 model). Just as Ferry Porsche brought to fruition in the first ever Porsche, the engineers in Stuttgart are striving to achieve the highest in performance and reliability by conducting their testing in the extreme weather of South Africa. The video above gives a sense of how tough these machines are pushed and the true personality of their driving style. [Driven]

Sasquatch 2011 Promo

Design firm Invisible Creature has produced extraordinary branding and promotional ads for this year’s Sasquatch music festival. With a background in both music and the arts, these guys have seamlessly combined the featured musical artists and the two mascots they designed for the festival, the sasquatch and the hunter, into an illustrative and playful promo video. I love the classic cartoonish features of the characters, and the handsome colors and textures of the clay caricatures above.  [TheFoxIsBlack]

Trinity Orchestra Covers Daft Punk

Daft Punk’s legendary album “Discovery” has captured the hearts of millions and produced multiple musical collaborations, including the full length anime movie Interstella 5555. The tracks of this album come together like parts of a masterful symphony, travelling through many styles of electronic pop and house music. The Trinity Orchestra of Dublin has been so touched by the album’s grandeur that they have decided to perform Discovery live in it’s entirety. The end result is an extrodinarily appropriate rendition of a peice of music that most would consider to be already perfected. [TheFoxIsBlack]

Marfa Texas

Secluded in the southwest corner of Texas, the small town of Marfa has quite a lot of clout in the world of design despite appearing to be an sleepy stop along the state highway. As a location for the work of renowned sculpture artist Donald Judd, the famous Prada Marfa and some of the film No Country For Old Men, Marfa has a well established culture of artists and craftsmen that contribute to the design world in their own unique way. Epic Meal Time

Breaking all the rules of gourmet cuisine, the visionaries at Epic Meal Time create monstrosities of food that can only be imagined in our puny little dreams. No man can stop their relentless quest to concoct dishes made up of junk food, bacon and liquor that were once thought to only be enjoyable while eaten separately. These men are changing the game, and defining a new genre of food all on their own.

Holy Ghost! – Wait & See

The boys of Holy Ghost! have come out with a video for their new track “Wait & See” substituting themselves with the fathers. Decked out in the same garb and depicting the typical New York City lifestyle that the band has become known for, the older Frankel and Millhiser fit the roles of their sons in an very touching fashion.
